One of my favorite weeks is upon us because The Moonshiner’s Ball is only a few days away!

But for those able or interested in making the trip to Livingston this weekend, there’s still plenty of other musical adventures to partake in. From a brotherly duo’s hometown return to a benefit show featuring the son of a southern rock legend and a diamond-in-the-rough triple-header at The Green Lantern, get caught up on all of my favorite Kentucky concerts this week after the break below.

Live Menu Oct. 6-12

The Kentucky Gentlemen

When: Oct. 7 at 8 p.m.

Where: The Burl — 375 Thompson Rd, Lexington

Online: TheBurlKy.com

Versailles born identical twins Derek and Brandon Campbell — better known as The Kentucky Gentlemen — will make the short drive up the road from Nashville for a “hometown” Tuesday night gig at The Burl in support of Rhinestone Revolution, their new album released in June. A mix of country, pop, R&B, soul and sass, the Gents silky smooth harmonies and charisma are a force to be reckoned with alongside other modern country duos like The War & Treaty and Brothers Osborne.

Duane Betts & Palmetto Motel, Stoll Vaughan

When: Oct. 9 at 7 p.m

Where: The Lyric Theatre — 300 E Third St, Lexington

Online: HistoricLyricTheatre.com

Longtime friends and collaborators Duane Betts — son of Allman Brothers Band guitarist Dickey Betts — and Lexington native Stoll Vaughan will share the stage during a Thursday night benefit at the Lyric Theatre. Proceeds from the gig will be presented to the Shepherd’s House, a Lexington-based non-profit helping to transform the lives of those suffering from drug and alcohol addiction.

Rebecca Rego & The Trainmen, Bonneville Tigers, Emily Jamerson

When: Oct. 10 at 8 p.m.

Where: The Green Lantern — 497 W Third St, Lexington

Online: Facebook.com

I’m really bummed I’m gonna miss this show by being at Moonshiner’s. Rebecca Rego and Emily Jamerson both have the voices of angels (with sweet songwriting to match) and I’ve heard nothing but good things about Bonneville Tigers, a Lexington-area rock group launched last year. If you’re in town this weekend, make sure to circle this concert on your calendar to make up for my FOMO!

The Moonshiner’s Ball

When: Oct. 9-12

Where: Rockcastle Riverside — 4211 Lower River Rd, Livingston

Online: TheMoonshinersBall.com

Over my almost decade of covering Kentucky’s music scene (so far) a few festivals have stood out among the crowd — Kickin It On The Creek, Laurel Cove Music Festival, Sleeping In The Woods, and The Moonshiner’s Ball.

Now in its 11th year, The Ball looks to again be in prime form with the likes of Margo Price, Pokey LaFarge, Shadowgrass, The Brothers Comatose, Rattlesnake Milk and Kyle Tuttle set to perform alongside locals like Cody Lee Meece, Scott T. Smith, Them Lasses, Mama Said String Band, Hollerhead, and Hot Brown Smackdown. As with every year prior though, it won’t just be great music flowing freely — good bourbon, great moonshine, and even better community await along the banks of the Rockcastle River.

JJ Grey & Mofro

When: Oct. 11 at 7:30 p.m.

Where: Old Forester’s Paristown Hall — 724 Brent St, Louisville

Online: Paristown.com

It won’t quite match seeing him perform “Orange Blossoms” at a festival in his home state of Florida called the Orange Blossom Revue, but it’s sure to be high times (and then some) when JJ Grey & Mofro storm into Old Forester’s Paristown Hall in Louisville on Saturday. The collective’s show is a continuation of its Olustee tour titled after their latest album of the same name, which is arguably the southern soul spinners most prolific compilation of music to date.
